Turns out Grummit was calmly writing all our names down and the entire year was made to do a huge essay over half term except those on the stage ... we (for I was one) got 6 of the best and made to whitewash an outhouse, but no essay, and we messed up the outhouse! As you say RIP. Certainly will be remembered as a strict headmaster. I remember reporting regularly to his office (with traffic lights on the door!) to receive my morning punishment for failing my Latin quota!
